As someone with monolids and naturally downward-pointing lashes, I know the struggle is REAL! Every morning felt like a losing battle with my eyelash curler. No matter how hard I tried, my lashes would either end up with a weird, unnatural “L” shape or just fall flat within minutes. 😩😩
I honestly thought I had just been cursed with bad eyelash curlers. I tried so many different ones, from drugstore brands to high-end ones, but nothing seemed to work!
Then, one day, I stumbled upon a beauty blogger’s video and realized that the problem wasn’t the curler at all… it was ME all along! I was using it completely wrong! 😭😭😭
So, without further ado, here are my tried-and-true tips for achieving perfectly curled lashes that last all day long!
1. Ditch the “deadly 90-degree angle” and start from the root!
Many people with monolids, myself included, are afraid to curl too close to the lash line for fear of pinching their eyelids. But this actually prevents you from getting a proper curl and makes your lashes look stiff and unnatural.
The key is to find the right angle and apply gentle pressure. Look down and place the curler as close to the base of your lashes as possible, hold for 3-5 seconds, then slowly move the curler upwards, clamping along the length of your lashes for a natural-looking curl.
2. Don’t rush it! Curl in sections.
Trying to curl all your lashes in one go is a recipe for disaster (and potentially broken eyelashes). Instead, divide your lashes into three sections – root, middle, and tip – and curl each section separately for a few seconds. This will create a more natural, lifted effect.
3. Blast it with heat! Use a hairdryer on your eyelash curler.
This trick is a game-changer! Before curling, heat your eyelash curler with a hairdryer for a few seconds (be careful not to make it too hot!). The heat will help to set the curl and make it last much longer.
Just make sure the hairdryer isn’t on a high heat setting, as you don’t want to burn your eyelids.
4. Say goodbye to clumpy spider lashes! Apply mascara in thin coats.
Globbing on tons of mascara will only weigh down your lashes and make them more likely to fall flat. Instead, apply a few thin coats, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. This will create a more natural, separated, and lifted effect.
Ever since I started following these tips, my lashes have been able to hold a curl all day long! No more looking like I don’t have any eyelashes! 🙌🙌🙌
